When I was younger I remember watching my single mother work and struggle to provide for my sister and I, in a small 1 bedroom apartment in Toronto. While she worked her full time job and school, with no father around I was basically left to raise myself. Living in an environment with multiple gang members under one roof, frequent police raids and fire evacuations, this might be terrifying for most but it was just another weekend for me. After getting jumped 3 times, loosing a friend to gun violence and witnessing my Mother hospitalized from over work, despair and hopelessness became my reality. All would have been lost if it wasn’t for an over zealous art teacher who discovered and nurtured my talent. At this moment I can truly say Art saved my life and gave me a new destiny, which is why I share my art with you today.
